The Path of Totality

Posted in E-News Alert, GPBC Events, Pastor's Notes

On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within what has been dubbed, “the path of totality, can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights – a total solar eclipse! This path, where the moon will completely cover the sun and the sun’s tenuous atmosphere – the corona – can be seen, and will stretch from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Observers outside this path will still see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk. NASA has created a website to provide a guide to this amazing event.

The advantage of seeing this sun and moon phenomena is found in the position of the viewer!

It is only those that are in the “path of totality” that are given the privilege of this experience!

I am encouraged to say that what is true about the sun is even more true about the Son of God!

For every Christian, the “path of totality” is experienced when we walk in the light of His fellowship by the power of the Holy Spirit!

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7

The tragedy is many Christians have settled for only a small percentage of the “abundant life” that Jesus promised all that follow Him!

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.  John 10:10

As we anticipate the Great Eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017 let us experience the totally full and abundant life that God offers all that follow Him!

God bless! See you on Sunday!

GPBC is Celebrating the Family on Sunday July 30, 2017

Posted in E-News Alert, GPBC Events, Pastor's Notes

The theme for this meeting says it all! “You Belong!”

Here at GPBC we love you and your family! No matter who you are, or how large or small your family is, you are precious to God and GPBC!

Our special guests for this great day are Sam and Debbie Wood! They are the founders of Family Fortress Ministries, in Jamestown, Tennessee. The mission of Family Fortress Ministries is “to exhort families in all aspects of family life to passionately fear God and to live according to His Word, so that they will experience the abundance that God desires to bless them with.”

This meeting will help each of us to honestly examine our current relationships with God and family members by explaining God’s plan for the family through His Word.

Every family must understand the fact that Jesus Christ is the foundation of the home and that families should take heed how they build upon that foundation.

These services promise to help each of us to grow our family to a higher plane of living before the next generation.

Every family should make plans to attend every service.  I also want to encourage you to invite other families and couples that you know who may not attend GPBC but are struggling or looking for a home church.

Remember on Sunday July 30, the place where “You Belong!” is here at GPBC!

Pastor Rick Adams

God bless you!

See you Sunday!

Summer Is Nigh!

Posted in E-News Alert, GPBC Events, Pastor's Notes

In Matthew 24:32 Jesus said, “Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:”

Some have taught, incorrectly, that Jesus is saying that the seasons are indistinguishable except by the budding of trees! No, what Jesus is actually teaching is when a fig tree’s branch has become tender and puts forth leaves, we know “that summer is nigh.”

He is simply using the budding of the fig tree to illustrate the truth about His second coming.

When spring comes and the trees put out new leaves, we know that summer is not far off!

In the same way, we will know Christ’s return is near when we see the events that He mentions earlier in the chapter begin to occur.

In the day that we live, it is evident that Christ’s return in nearer than most believe!

The wars, earthquakes and of course the budding nation of Israel all speak of that wonderful day when Christ returns!

Matt 24:33 provides the key to His parable: “So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.”

However, Jesus warns that we will only know the approximate time of His return, that is, that it is close. He says in verse 36: ” But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”

I believe that time is quickly approaching, but we have no idea how soon it will be.

Let each of us heed Christ’s instruction in Matthew 24:44, Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

The best approach for Christians is found in Paul’s admonition to the Romans in Rom 13:11-14, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.”

If we live as if Christ could come today, we will always be striving to be prepared for it.

Yes, thank God, “Summer is nigh!”

See you Sunday!
