Finally… Getting It Right!

Posted in GPBC Events

Did you ever notice that some people always get it wrong? Paul Harvey, in his book FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH, tells about a county jail in south Florida where jail officials found a plastic trash bag setting on the floor right next to the bars of a cell.

Believe it or not, inside was Jimmy Jones, a prisoner who hoped he would get taken out with the trash. And he might have…except during roll call his instincts took over. When the name Jimmy Jones was called… from inside the bag came a muffled response: “Here!”

Poor guy! Some people just can’t seem to get it right. But here’s some good news, especially for those of us like Jimmy Jones who sometimes get it all wrong. The Apostle Paul says in Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: and again in Romans 5:8-9 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

Think of that. When we place our faith and trust in Christ, we no longer need to concern ourselves about our salvation. We are “justified” with God! Simply put we are made “right with God!”

We no longer need to wonder whether we will be found acceptable when we stand before the throne of grace. We no longer need to cast an anxious eye over our life’s work. Thank God, because of what Christ has done those of us who so often get it wrong have eternally been made right!

This Sunday I will be sharing how Our Great Savior has made it possible for us to be right with God!

Please come and bring someone with you!

MEMORIAL DAY RECOGNITION AT GPBC – SUNDAY MAY 28 AT 11AM

Posted in GPBC Events

An old preacher once said that one of the chief faults of a Christian is “We tend to remember what we ought to forget, and we forget what we ought to remember!”

No doubt, there are some things that we should never forget. One of these, of course, is the sacrifices that others have made for our Liberty!

Next Monday, America, will celebrate Memorial Day, a holiday set aside by Americans to remember those who paid the highest price by giving their lives for our freedom and our liberty.

History records for us the backdrop for this special day. On a spring morning in 1866, just after the Civil War had ended, the South was still devastated from a war that had cost her the best she had to offer: her sons and husbands. On this morning a group of Southern women did something quite extraordinary. They marched down the streets of what was left of their town to a cemetery. There they decorated the graves of the soldiers who had fallen in battle during the war. The unusual thing about this display of respect was they did it for all the soldiers… Union as well as Confederate.  These mothers and daughters and widows who had buried their dead had now gathered and determined to bury their hatred. The time for healing had come. That became the first American Memorial Day.

Of course, the greatest Liberator is the Lord Jesus Christ! He came “to set the captive free!”

Let’s make sure that we are in God’s House this Sunday as we pay a special tribute to those that payed the highest price!

Remember, Going to church is not only a command to be obeyed, Heb 10:25; it is a love to be displayed! Psalm 122:1!

This weekend Memorial Day will come and go. But our opportunity to be living walking memorials of God’s grace continues until we leave this world by death or by the rapture!

Until then let each of us live our Life for God’s glory!

See you this Sunday

GPBC Annual Baby Day Celebration and Nursery Workers Appreciation!

Posted in GPBC Events

Sunday May 21, 2017 at 11am and 6pm

We know that children are “a gift from God” and each year we desire to do more than talk about it!

Several years ago we set aside the Sunday after Mother’s Day as a day that we would celebrate the joy of Babies here at GPBC!

This Sunday, we are going to have all babies from birth to 2 years old come into the service accompanied by their parents for a special prayer of dedication.

We will also be presenting each one with a beautiful New Testament. A blue one for the little boys, and a pink one for the little girls. We will also be taking pictures to remember this event.

So dress them in their “Sunday best” and bring them to church this Sunday morning!

This is also a great opportunity to invite unchurched families and parents of babies to come for this celebration!

Jesus said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of God.”

Please pray that like our Lord, we will be known as a church that loves children!

On Sunday Night at 6pm we will also show our love and appreciation to all of our Nursery workers here at GPBC!

There are over a 60 different ladies that serve faithfully in this necessary ministry, as well as our four Nursery Directors! We will express our appreciation for each of these ladies Sunday night for their love and labor here at GPBC!

Mother’s Day Is This Sunday! May 14, 2017

Posted in E-News Alert, GPBC Events, Pastor's Notes

Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am or ever hope to be I owe to my mother.”

Someone else said’ “Being a mother is not easy. If it was easy, Fathers would do it!”

If I could, I would tell my mom, “Because of who you were, I am who I am today! I Love you!”

It is only right that we set aside a special day to honor mothers! It would do us well to remember that long before it became a presidential proclamation, honoring mothers was God’s idea!

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” Exodus 20:12

That is exactly what we are going to do this Sunday!

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts to your mother would be for you to bring your mother to church this Sunday.

Every mother that attends this Sunday will not only be honored in our service but they will also receive a refreshing and delicious gift from GPBC!

If your mother is in Heaven (like mine is), or perhaps unable to attend with you this Sunday, please use this as an opportunity to invite and adopt another mother to be your mother” at GPBC this Sunday!  Who knows? It may be the one event that will change her life for eternity!

I am praying for God to give us a great day!

God bless you! See your Sunday!
